Guruge, San Francisco, Jan. 2005Anura Gurugé is an independent technical consultant who specializes in data center issues (particularly if they involve IBM mainframes, large Unix servers or the IBM iSeries), SOA, corporate portals and Web-to-host/EAI.

Given that he was the undisputed “Mr. SNA” for nearly 3 decades, he has first hand, experience in most areas of IBM sector networking. He was actively involved with the Token-Ring switching pioneer Nashoba Networks, which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1996, and the ATM broadband access company Sonoma Systems which was acquired by Nortel in 2000. He has also worked with other start-ups such as OpenConnect Systems and ResQNet. Over the years he has provided consulting services for most of the big names in the industry including: IBM, Cisco, Motorola, 3Com, Novell, Nortel,Guruge WOW logo NetManage, Attachmate, Bus-Tech etc.

He was the founder and Chairman of the SNA-Capable i·net Forum in 1997. He also ran a boat-based, take-out delivery service in New Hampshire called “Waiters on Water”.

In his spare time he has been known to sell restaurant point-of-sales (POS) systems and Wi-Fi solutions in addition to doing some Website design.

He is now the editor at large for "IT In-Depth". He has written the Deep Blue column for z/Journal and over the years has been regular contributor to TCP/SNA Update.

He taught numerous graduate and post-graduate computer technology and marketing courses at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) – Laconia/Gilford, Portsmouth and Dover campuses.  Of late, reflecting his new interests and expertise, he is moving onto teach 'humanities' oriented subjects.

He is the author of: “Web Services: Theory and Practice, “Corporate Portals Empowered with XML and Web Services”, Integrating TCP/IP i*nets with IBM Data Centers”, Reengineering IBM Networks”, and SNA: Theory and Practice – as shown in the "Overview" page on this Web site.

He co-edited Auerbach’s handbooks on: “Communications Systems Management” and “Web-to-Host Integration”.

For nearly 7 years he published the highly acclaimed 16-page, monthly electronic Newsletter called i-BigBlue Professionals’ Monthly" that dealt with most issues related to IBM systems. In 2004 he published a calendar on "Cathedrals and Abbeys of Britain" based on his photographs and commentary.

In a career spanning 30 years, he has held senior technical and marketing roles in IBM, ITT, Northern Telecom, Wang and BBN.
