The
beginning of the end for Wang. I was the senior
product manager for the networking group.
Dr. Gene Amdahl and Me (1995)
In 1974 when
I had just joined IBM (at Hursley) I was sent to a 2 day
seminar, in London (Heathrow Airport), given by Dr.
Amdahl who had just formed his eponymous company on the
future of mainframes. I sat entranced, in the
front row, and took copious notes thought much of it was
way above my head. Twenty one years later he came and
sat through full-day IBM networking seminar that I did
in Hilton Head, SC and I even got to have breakfast and
dinner with him. What a gentleman. My hero.

(from 1979) -- the so called 'FAPL' for those of
you who never got to see it. This was my bible for
nearly 20 years. Knew much of it by heart!
