Welcome
to my Web site. I am Anura Gurugé
-- and most people just call me 'Anu'.
This site portrays my professional activities and
academic interests. On the professional
front the six
broad categories of work that I am involved with are:
1. high-tech consulting & analysis
2. technical writing for corporations &
publications
3.
publisher & editor at large of
"IT In-Depth"
4.
teaching
5. Web site design and implementation
Big IBM systems (in which I have dabbled in since 1974)
continue to be my first love when it comes to IT.
Consequently I focus on large data center issues. Given
my legacy as “Mr. SNA”, I can’t really get away
from host access and thus still do a fair amount of work
on the Web-to-host fronts. Working with
host integration it was inevitable that I would end up
having to master XML Web services. This,
as reflected by my last two books, has led me to do more
and more work on Web services, particularly in
relationship to corporate portals.
Given IBM’s involvement it was destined that I would end
up looking at autonomic computing and
grid computing technologies. I started to
write a book on these technologies but realized that
this information is too dynamic to be of use in book
form. So I try and get it out in Web form on "IT In-Depth"
and in print in where I can.
The primary technology areas that I now
deal with can be summarized as being:
