Bio

I have never been very good at describing what I do, what I have done & what I can do.

That is partly because I am kind of complicated & convoluted.

It really doesn’t matter much because in 2014 I stopped working for money. I can no longer be hired.
I still ‘work’, i.e., write, like a person obsessed, each & every day (7-days a week), but I am doing it for myself.

But, here is a bullet-point summary of my life, to-date — in kind of reverse chronological order.

Professional

  • I was self-employed from 1992 to 2014. I called myself an ‘Independent Consultant/Analyst‘. During these 23-years I did:
    — high-end technical & marketing consulting to computer/networking vendors.
    — lots of paid, 1-hour to 5-day, technical, training or marketing seminars.
    — huge amount of writing (as described in the ‘Writing’ page).
  • My consulting clients included: Cisco, IBM, Bay Networks, Attachmate, Eicon, CrossCom, NetManage, BusTech, Netlink, NT, SDS etc. etc.
  • I was hired to do seminars & training in the U.S., Europe & once in Asia.
  • Much of my writing during this period sprang-from or complemented my consulting & seminars. Consulting clients would ask me to write: White Papers, Technical Analysis, Case Studies, Marketing Collateral, Training Material etc. I would produce articles or brochures to serve as background material for seminars.
  • As of 2014 I spent most of my working hours (& I still like to work 6 – 8 hours a day) writing (books, posts or reviews).

Prior to 1992

  • From 1974 to 1992 I worked for quite a few companies, first in the U.K. & then in the U.S.
  • In 1992 I became self-employed.
