Misled by a misinformed media many have come to believe that Sri Lanka, a few years ago, banned the use of artificial fertilizers & pesticides in order to GO GREEN — be all organic & environmentally friendly. Let me please refer you to a NATURAL fertilizer once commonly used in Sri Lanka (nee Ceylon). BULL SHIT!

The government banned artificial fertilizers & pesticides to save precious & dwindling foreign currency reserves.

Sri Lanka was IMPORTING artificial fertilizers & pesticides. That was the problem.

The corrupt Government was trying to curry favor (& votes) by cutting taxes. They had to make cuts in other places to offset the losses in revenue.

They decided to BE COOL — APPEAR GREEN & band fertilizers & pesticides. Bull Shit!

Oh, I am NO LONGER a Sri Lankan. I renounced my citizenship in 1983 — 39-years ago. SMILE.
