I came across the name when I doing some research on Lubec, Maine for my ongoing ‘Bold Coast‘ initiatives. On first read I just assumed that the author was stating that she was born into a rich family. It took me a second (or more) to realize that this was the given (i.e., first) name of a female. I then did a double-take. Wealthy?

I, of course, did some research. It, of course, not a common name.

But, it kind of makes sense. ‘Wealthy‘ doesn’t have to always refer to financial well-being. It could also pertain to richness in other sense. Hhhmmm. Not that I would ever dream of naming a daughter ‘wealthy’. But, to be fair, this was in the 1840s — & that truly was a different world.
