I had picked up this book, over the summer, at one of those roadside free book libraries.
While I have seen ‘Brideshead Revisited‘ (the inspiration for ‘Downton Abbey‘) at least twice, this was the first time I was reading ‘Waugh’.
The page shown above kind of shocked me. I wasn’t too perturbed. I understand & appreciate British racism of THAT ERA. It was cultural.
But, I am kind of amazed that Evelyn Waugh doesn’t get branded a racist more widely. If they can call ‘Enid Blyton’ a racist they have to call him out too. That is only fair.
