Not exactly new. I had had others in this ‘Bold Coast’ series (of 5) in the ‘Best Sellers‘ list. This (below) was from July 2023.
I know some of you won’t believe this, but I don’t check this stuff. I just happened to notice it today. SMILE.
It is NOT making me rich — that is a fact & a given. Check the prices. But it makes me happy & for I, happiness is better than money (because people tell me that money doesn’t make you happy (though I am not totally convinced of that)).
SMILE.

I have always maintained that ALL ‘Revels‘, by definition, are GOOD (& yesterday’s Revels in Cambridge was probably the 25th I have attended between Cambridge & ‘Revels North‘ (and this was my 2nd Revels of the year)).
So, it was GOOD. Of that there can never be any doubt or debate.
So, when I ‘review’ a Revel, all I am still always in the SPECTRUM of the GOOD. So, yes, we have GOOD, better, best, memorable, exceptional, outstanding, gob-smacking etc.
Yesterday’s show, the last of 2023, in my reckoning was middle-of-the GOOD spectrum. Better than just plain good, but not as good as some of the past ones at Cambridge (and the ‘Venetian’ & ‘Arcadian’ readily spring to mind).
“The Feast of Fools” was very powerful & compelling on the acting/performance & stagecraft/prop departments. Tour de force. But, in my opinion, it was a tad light on the MUSICAL front. Yes, of course, there was plenty of music, song & dance — but there was NOTHING totally captivating.
Yes, there was a delectable ‘Peasant Dance‘, with gypsy music, but it was all instrument.
The incomparable M.C. & maestro ‘David Coffin‘ did NOT appear to play as bigger role as he normally does. That might be the crux of it.
I got to meet & shake hands with David BEFORE the show. WOW! First time I actually got to meet him. I had (through some contacts I have in the ‘Front Office’) managed to get a copy of my ‘Christmas Quiz‘ book delivered to him. He came upstairs looking to see who sent it down. He had it in his hand. So, I knew he was looking for I. That was SPECIAL.
Though it contained all the mandatory Revels ‘elements’ we did NOT have a SWORD DANCE this year. Instead we had a STICK dance. Not the same. I love the Cambridge sword dances.
The King had enormous presence & bearing. Quite the guy. But …
C’est la vie. It was still GOOD. Better than good, just not way up there. SMILE.
I am fairly sure that I have ONLY knew of the ‘Navajo’ ‘Code Talkers‘. I have read ‘the book’ (leftmost in above picture) & I have been to the ‘Code Talker’ Memorial at ‘Window Rock‘, New Mexico. I am sure THE book, THE movie or something else MUST have talked about others but it had never registered with I till this weekend.
On Sunday, at ‘Split Rock‘, at ‘Passamaquoddy Days‘, an elder, a Harvard-trained nurse told me that there have been Passamaquoddy Code Talkers during WWII. That blew me away. I started investigating as soon as I got back, i.e., yesterday.
The Wikipedia ‘Code Talker’ entry was quite insightful. They talk about multiple languages, in addition to Navajo. Interesting.
Passamaquoddy, however, is NOT mentioned.
I have learnt that Passamaquoddy served, with distinction, in WWI & WWII.
I have also seen, fleetingly, that Passamaquoddy may have served ALONGSIDE Navajo. Not sure whether they spoke Navajo. But, the Code Talkers needed helpers to carry the equipment & run messages. So Passamaquoddy could have done that.
But, I will now keep on checking — if & when I have the time. SMILE.
Click to ENLARGE. Yes, #4PAID ‘Maine Travel Guides‘.Click to ENLARGE. This one is at #26 — giving me TWO in the TOP 50.
BIG GRIN.
It is NOT making me rich — that is a fact & a given. Check the prices. But it makes me happy & for I, happiness is better than money (because people tell me that money doesn’t make you happy (though I am not totally convinced of that)).
But, I did NOT write them for the money. That was a good job. Smile.
It is GRATIFYING & to I that is ALL that counts. Smile.
Making the ‘Maine Travel Guide’ Best Seller list is NOT new. Last year I had TWO books make it to #1 — albeit fleetingly. Again, didn’t make me rich.
SMILE.

My other two outlets in Lubec, i.e., ‘Dockside Treasures‘ & ‘The Eastland Motel‘, already have their copies in hand. They ordered a few months earlier.
This is great. This time last year I only had ONE Bold Coast book. Now there are five.
Very grateful to the three Lubec outlets. They have all been WONDERFUL. I sell more copies in Lubec than I sell online. I am happy. Thank YOU.
