First crocuses of 2023 (in our yard) — April 7, 2023.

I am AMAZED. As you can see from one picture we still have snow on the ground — adjacent to these flowering crocuses.

I was NOT expecting to see any flowers. I wanted to see if any SHOOTS had come up, under the snow.

THEN I SAW THE FLOWERS. I was floored, BUT happy.

But, we are expecting ANOTHER MAJOR SNOWSTORM on Wednesday!

This crocus bed is usually the FIRST to bloom each year. It faces East and as such gets a lot of sun. The bed does well as long as I don’t shovel a ton of snow on top of it from the the driveway. As we know we didn’t have that much snow this winter. That sure was a factor. Over a WEEK EARLY!

First flowers, i.e., crocuses, of 2023, in our yard, from 4-days ago.

This crocus bed is usually the FIRST to bloom each year — bar this (i.e., 2023). Because it is close to the top of the driveway a LOT of snow gets shoveled onto it — & this year we had more snow than most. This bed had a snow covering till late yesterday. So, today really was its first totally snow free day & the flowers, like magic, bloomed. Amazing.

Moreover, they were so anxious to see the light (i.e., the Sun) they punches through obstacles in their way. Amazing. WOW. See this post — also from today.

New flowers were blooming even as I watched. Well, not exactly. But, there were 3 new flowers 2 hours after I had first visited. They sure are in a hurry. Do NOT worry, I will keep you posted. Enjoy. There will be no shortage of posts featuring flowers. SMILE.

The Sheer Tenacity & Power Of Little Plants — Crocuses PUNCHING Holes Through A Snow-Laden Leaf.

Saw this in our yard this morning. I was AMAZED & humbled.

Up until this morning this area was SNOW PACKED — snow covered.

So, there was snow on top of this leaf holding it down, holding it in place. Hence, the burgeoning crocuses couldn’t just push it out of the way.

Instead they PUNCHED holes through the leaf while still underneath the snow.

WOW.

Just think about it.

The sheer power of plants, the sheer power of nature. I am in awe. WOW.
