I Finally Got ‘Windows 11’ For My MAIN, Desktop PC.

My MAIN desktop PC.

This was a BIG step for I & was nerve wracking. Though it went much better than I had HOPED, I am still ‘in shock’.

I am NOT big into changing my PC OS, i.e., upgrading Windows.

This is ONLY the 3rd Windows upgrade I have done in 15 years!

I kept Windows 7 (Professional) on my previous main PC for 12 years.

I only got Windows 10 when I finally broke down & got a NEW, main PC in November 2021. Today, I upgraded that from Windows 10 to Windows 11 23H2.

OK. I was NOT a total Windows 11 virgin. [I would NOT have upgraded my MAIN PC before I had tried out Windows 11. I am NOT like that.]

Yes, I got a mini PC with Windows 11 as my backup system so I could gain some familiarity with Windows 11. SMILE.

I used the ‘Widows 11 Upgrade Assistant‘ to do the upgrade.

I had thought that this Assistant checked your PC beforehand and kind of took you step-by-step as to the upgrade. Not so. As soon as I clicked ‘Download Now‘ the upgrade started. I wasn’t expecting that.

But, to my immense joy & relief there were NO glitches. Yes, we did about 6 RESTARTS. But, that is par for the course.

The entire upgrade took 53 minutes.

‘Google SITES’ Is BEYOND AMAZING. I Am In SHOCK. It Is So, So Easy, Streamlined & Integrated.

NEW ‘minipc.wiki‘ already up on ‘Google Sites’.

Using it to create & PUBLISH a Website with a CUSTOM DOMAIN NAME was incredibly easy.

Wow. I am in shock. I never expected it to be that easy. AMAZING.

Yes, the capabilities are SOMEWHAT limited, but I was only after a SIMPLE Website — & it was PERFECT for that. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing.

Just what I needed. Such a relief after all the HASSLE I had had with ‘WordPress‘ over at ‘HostGator’. This was great.

Going to do at least TWO MORE Websites with them soon. Stay tuned.

Wow. If you need to create a SIMPLE Website, start with them. Give me a SHOUT. I will help you.

‘HostGator’ NO LONGER A Good Choice For ‘WordPress’ Hosting — Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn YOU.

NEW ‘minipc.wiki‘ already up on ‘Google Sites’.

Yes, this Website/Blog WordPress has been hosted at HostGator since June 2021.

And, to be fair, I have been quite happy with the hosting — and support — though we had had a few small wrinkles.

I went to set up a new WordPress site for one of the NEW domain names I bought this week.

Tried to create it online on my own. It basically got into a never-ending loop. Called them up. Got their new Philippines Call Center. They were good. Admitted that it was best IF THEY set it up, rather than I trying to do it myself. They went ahead and set up a site for me. Took about 30 minutes. I was OK with that.

I had forgotten how much work it is to get a WP site up and running. But, I have been using WP, DAILY, for 20 years! So, I got a basic site up. Got the NameServers updated at GoDaddy. So, to be fair, I had it up and running …

THEN the troubles started. Biggest issue was that new updates to the site were NOT getting propagated. I would make changes to the home page and PUBLISH it. I would be able to see the CHANGES on my Chrome browser BECAUSE I am always logged onto WordPress. But, the changes would NOT show on other systems!

Had to call HostGator. That was a hassle. They fixed it initially and said it was a CACHING issue — and that I should just clear the CACHE. I had been told this, on this site, a few months ago. I was OK. They AGAIN showed me how to clear the cache via SETTINGS. I was cool.

Problem happened again a few hours later. Clearing the cache didn’t fix it.

I WAS DONE.

I did some research and decided to TRY ‘Google Sites‘. I did NOT need a Blog. So, that was not a factor.

I changed the GoDaddy nameservers back to ‘PARK’ & this morning started on ‘Google Sites’. I am delighted.

NO MORE WordPress with HostGator.

I hope I can keep this site running OK. Fingers crossed.

Got Myself Some ‘.wiki’ & ‘.guru’ Domain Names For A Bunch Of New Website Initiatives.

‘.guru’, OF COURSE, was made for I.

It is MY NAME. ‘Guruge‘ <<— from the ‘house of the Guru‘ (i.e., ‘from the house of the teacher’).

‘Minipc.guru’ is KIND of neat. My NEW hobby. Yes, mini PCs have got to me. Latest interest. SMILE. But, I am STARTING with ‘minipc.wiki‘.

Having some WIKIs will also be FUN. So, stay TUNED.
