AceMagic Mini PCs With Pre-Installed Spyware — Now Multiple Reports.

My post from 5 weeks ago. Click to access post.

I told you about this, i.e., SPYWARE pre-installed on AceMagic mini PCs, as soon as I heard about it. I happened to see a YouTube video & a news story on the same day.

I was NOT amused.

This was NOT good. This was intentional. They can’t claim it was accidental.

My concern is that this will tarnish all of the sector. Now, I have tried Geekom, Minisforum and Beelink mini PCs in the last few weeks. All three were CLEAN and none of them had any bloatware. The Geekom IT12, that I opted to keep, was a very clean and good install. I was impressed.

But, this makes you nervous to deal with any of these Chinese mini PC companies.

I recommend that you stick to ASUS, Geekom and Beelink. I am not happy with Minisforum, for now.

‘Minisforum’ UN1265 — DisplayPort Just Will Not Work! Crushed.

Very discouraged & unhappy.

I was really, really looking forward to using this ‘Minisforum’ UN1265 as my 2nd PC. Crushed.

The HDMI port works like a champ. I tried both monitors on that HDMI port. No problem. Just the DisplayPort. Tried 3 cables.

Drivers up to-date. It is an Intel adapter.

Returning it. NOT HAPPY. NOT HAPPY.

Bummer. Second Mini-PC I am returning. First one worked. Just didn’t like the AMD Ryzen processor.

Amazon Wants 16-Days To Process My ‘Beelink SER6 Max’ Mini PC Return.

Yes, Amazon, on its return policy does say, very clearly, that they reserve the right to TEST returned computers. That is fair enough. Yes, I do appreciate that we have unscrupulous folks out there.

Plus, it was the holidays.

That said, 16-days does seem a tad excessive.

Not sure whether this is Amazon or Beelink.

Well, I still have 4-days to go. I will let you know what transpire. Plus, they can whack me with a 15% restocking fee. That is fair enough too.

The Beelink WORKED. I just didn’t like the AMD Ryzen processors. I had no experience of them prior to this. I will NEVER buy AMD again (though I am an AMD shareholder.)

So, to be fair to Amazon again, I returned this because I didn’t like it — rather than because it didn’t work. See below.

This Claim That Mini PCs Are Shipping With Pre-Installed MALWARE Is Very Disturbing — Since I Am Going To Get ONE.

by Anura Guruge
on December 30, 2023

What I found MOST disturbing was that I have watched MULTIPLE YouTube videos about mini PCs from ‘AceMagic‘. They have ALL RAVED about these mini PCs. No mention, whatsoever, of BLOATWARE — never mind malware.

So, this raises the whole question as to the credibility of YouTube reviews.

I have watched a LOT of YouTubes about mini PCs to help me make up my mind.

Now I worry that I have been hoodwinked.

I lucked out with the ‘Beelink SER6 Max‘ I bought. There was NO bloatware. Very clean Windows installation. My only gripe with that was the bloody Ryzen.

Now I am worried. Beelink doesn’t have an Intel mini PC that meets MY requirements.

Will I get burnt?

Beelink SER6 MAX‘ I got from Amazon,
with a Ryzen 9 9600HX.

The Beelink SER6 MAX worked, appeared to work VERY NICELY
— and I was getting quite attached to it.

My Review Of The ‘Beelink SER6 Max’ Mini PC Complaining About The Poor Management Visibility Of The ‘AMD Ryzen 9’ 9600HX Processor Published On Amazon.

I felt very strongly about this, i.e., the very limited visibility into Ryzen processors. I am amazed that people don’t talk about it. It is important, especially being able to monitor CPU processor temps.

I wasn’t sure whether Amazon would publish my review given that I have BAD THINGS to say — & even use the word ‘garbage’. But, it did get approved, though it took 3 days.

I am glad. Others need to know this. I don’t want them to find out, like I did, the hard way.

This was my first venture with AMD (– & I happen to be an AMD shareholder).

It appears that (most) AMD processors ONLY HAVE ONE temp. sensor — for the entire processor, as opposed to a sensor per CORE.

With the Ryzen 9 you just see ONE CORE. Yikes. I couldn’t deal with that.

Plus, it appears that a lot of software, including AMD’s OWN ‘Ryzen Master’ doesn’t support the 6900HX because it is NEW and, moreover, a MOBILE processor.

I couldn’t live with that.

I RETURNED the Beelink.

AMD Ryzen 9 9600HX Processor — VERY LIMITED Monitoring, E.G., TEMP, Capability.

Until now I have always had PCs powered by Intel.

I did NOT expect that AMD processors would be that much different to Intel ones when it came to INTERNAL MONITORING.

Boy, was I wrong.

For a start, it appears that (most) AMD processors ONLY HAVE ONE temp. sensor — for the entire processor, as opposed to a sensor per CORE. I am used to running ‘CORE TEMP’ & seeing the temp of each core.

With the Ryzen 9 you just see ONE CORE. Yikes. I couldn’t deal with that.
