So, so GLAD & relieved that we got a big ‘Generac‘ last Summer. WOW. Could NOT have dealt with this without that.

Crazy. SECOND 24+ hour plus outage in 2 weeks. This is climate change.

That it came back and then went OFF was frustrating. I didn’t have to do anything. Generac comes on by itself. Felt bad for those with portable generators. Luckily many around here had just kept theirs going.

Met some of the crew restoring power. They were from Kentucky! They had flown to Connecticut and then come over in CT trucks. Very nice. Showed me one of the blown fuses. I gave them chocolates. Least I could do.

Also lent one of our portable generators to a neighbor who didn’t have a generator. That was good — though they got power back 2 hours later. Always the case. When we first got our generators … sister-in-law and husband drove from Maine with them (purchased from Sears). 20 minutes after they arrived, before we could even unload the boxes, power was back.

Not sure IF we are out of the woods yet. Lot of snow on trees.

But, glad we have had power, uninterrupted, for 6 hours. Fingers crossed.

In The Midst Of A Monster Snowstorm. 20″+ Wet/Heavy Snow. No Power. Fenced In By Snow.

Biggest snowstorm of THIS winter. Yes, I was waiting for this. Winter, so far, especially February, had been way, way too mild. So, I knew we would pay for it.

And we sure are paying for it today … into tomorrow … & most likely Saturday.

Lots of heavy, wet snow. Just chews up the snowblowers.

Lost power at 4:40am. 12-hours ago. Doubt whether we will get it restored before Saturday — possibly Sunday! Glad we now have a ‘Generac‘. Hope it can cope. If it fails we are screwed.

It is still snowing today and will continue into Friday. WOW. Haven’t had a storm like this in years. I hope we SURVIVE.

IF you don’t see any posts, it means we are BURIED. Send search parties with FOOD. Thanks.

This is WILD. We have had this chainlink fence, a huge (house-size) pen for (dear) ‘Rowen‘ since 2021. Never seen it like this. WOW.

We have had close to 20″ of snow since yesterday evening. Still snowing. I have plowed twice and I still have more. Crazy. You can see the build up on top of the fence.

But this was COOL. Snow blown up against the chainlink. COOL.

To Say That This Was A ‘Hot Winter’ Is An Understatement!

I remember the March 14, 2023, snowstorm vividly. It was a monster storm.

My U.S. Citizenship Interview, which had already been postponed once (2 weeks earlier), because of another snowstorm, was the next day. I was waiting for them to call to say that it was postponed again. Didn’t happen.

I had to shovel 3 times, early in the morning, because we had SO, SO MUCH snow.

And this year. NOTHING.

This is NOT RIGHT. This is SCARY. We are going to pay for this.

I am sure we will have at least ONE BIG snowstorm before Spring.

Getting Soaked In Today’s Relentless Rain In Order To Get In My Mandatory 10K Steps Morning Walk.

Waterproof pants are SOAKED.

Stats & GPS track from my ‘Garmin Epix 2’.

I knew it was going to rain all day. But, that, alas, won’t do as an excuse.

I have to get in my steps (~17,000/day, 500,000+/month) Rain, SNOW or SHINE. Plus, with the temperature in the mid-40Fs (7C) I was way ABOVE my (self-imposed) 5F (-15C) cutoff threshold.

I hate the RAIN. I will take snow any day of the week, provided it is not blowing in your face too much. Well today it was all rain & it was relentless. Kept on coming down. No escaping it.

I wasn’t dressed for the cold. It wasn’t cold. I was dressed for the rain. I had three layers. I was actually dry underneath. Just the outer layer was SOAKED. SOAKED.

It is still raining. But, I still have to go out in it TWICE.

It is NOT easy being I.

In the snow in Demeber.

All the leaves behind this SMALL tree are all that is left from the BIG branch that snapped off blocking our drive.

It is 8pm & there are still folks without power. YIKES. From ‘Eversource‘.

It was quite the nightmare day — BUT, I appreciate that we LUCKED OUT, BIG TIME. It could have been worse! I see that there are a lot of folks still without power. I truly feel bad for them. Even an hour after our power was restored at 1:09pm there were folks 1/2 mile away without power.

Two very kind folks, my young next door neighbor (Anthony (who is constantly helping me out)) & a total stranger who was plowing a driveway 2 -houses from us helped us clear away the BIG branch that was blocking our drive. They wielded chainsaws. Teischan, though still not well, hauled away all the bits while I was struggling with the snowblowers. By the time I was done she had cleared all the debris. That was pretty amazing. The gentleman who helped me out & also plowed the top of our drive to make things easier for us was Mr. Dan LaCroix. Thank you. He & Anthony saved our day.

It was wet, heavy snow like wet concrete. Clogged up the snowblowers. Glad I have two!

Well, we survived. It wasn’t a fun day. Between hauling the two generators (with help), plowing the drive (some of it by hand) & getting the branch taken down that was a lot of physical work. This is when I am glad that I am a tad fit.

Appears we have another storm a coming same time next week. Oh, what fun!

It Is NOT Easy Being I, Having To Spend 2-Hours In The SNOW To Meet My Self-Imposed Step Goals.

It was snowing & it never let up. I need that hat to stay warm.

From ‘Garmin Connect’. 4.17 miles & 2-hours in the snow.

I have to get in my steps (~17,000/day, 500,000+/month) Rain, SNOW or SHINE — provided it is 5F (-15C) or above. Hate the RAIN. Snow is better as long as it is not blowing in your face too much. That was the case today. Hardly any wind. So the snow was gently falling, straight down. Not too bad. Wasn’t that cold either. Hovering around 32F. I will take that.

Have to wear my Russian fur-hat. In my dotage I really feel the cold. That has been the biggest thing about getting old. I never used to feel or mind the cold. Now that I am old, I am always cold.

7pm now & I have to go out again now, albeit just for about 15-minutes. Dogs need walking.

Then a brisk, 20-minute, ~1 mile, between 11:40 & midnight for my postprandial amble.

My life is not easy. But, I kind of like it. Wouldn’t trade it.
