So, so GLAD & relieved that we got a big ‘Generac‘ last Summer. WOW. Could NOT have dealt with this without that.

Crazy. SECOND 24+ hour plus outage in 2 weeks. This is climate change.

That it came back and then went OFF was frustrating. I didn’t have to do anything. Generac comes on by itself. Felt bad for those with portable generators. Luckily many around here had just kept theirs going.

Met some of the crew restoring power. They were from Kentucky! They had flown to Connecticut and then come over in CT trucks. Very nice. Showed me one of the blown fuses. I gave them chocolates. Least I could do.

Also lent one of our portable generators to a neighbor who didn’t have a generator. That was good — though they got power back 2 hours later. Always the case. When we first got our generators … sister-in-law and husband drove from Maine with them (purchased from Sears). 20 minutes after they arrived, before we could even unload the boxes, power was back.

Not sure IF we are out of the woods yet. Lot of snow on trees.

But, glad we have had power, uninterrupted, for 6 hours. Fingers crossed.

Another ‘HostGator’ Outage Impacting This Website/Blog — The 2nd In 18-Days.

It was relatively short — just 18 minutes.

BUT, it was the 2nd OUTAGE in 18-Days (i.e., less than 3 weeks).

Prior to this, most of this year, ‘HostGator‘ has been quite reliable.

This is getting me concerned.

This Website/Blog Suffered A 32-Minute Outage At ‘HostGator’ This Morning.

To be fair, as far as I can remember this is the FIRST outage of any note I have suffered on this site/blog in 2023. But, in a way, that is also why it comes as a JARRING shock when it happens. You get lulled into a sense of complacency & then, ‘BANG’, you get a message saying your Website is down.

I pay BIG BUCKS (& I am not joking or being facetious) for ‘WordPress’ ‘Jetpack‘. One of the key things it does is regularly monitor Website availability.

Getting a message from Jetpack saying that the site is down is not pleasant. Your first reaction is to check it, i.e., check the site. They were right. WOW.

All sorts of bad scenarios go through your head. Has the site been HACKED. What will it take to restore it.

I tried hard to be patient. So, rather than continuing to check repeatedly, I decided to wait. That paid off. But, NOT fun. Just glad to have it back.

Luckily I slept through it. Not so my daughter. But, she didn’t wake me because she knew it would ‘distress’ I.

They claim it was ‘animal contact’ with equipment — whatever that means.

It appears to have been a transformer across the road from us. I didn’t see/hear it but I am told that there were 3 trucks there to fix it.

Only our road was affected. This happens too many times, i.e., just our road.

Our 24kW ‘Generac‘, delivered last Tuesday, isn’t still hooked up. Just my luck.

Luckily this was short, i.e., 2-hours, & happened when I was asleep. For that I am glad.

Well …

Can’t wait to get the Generac hooked up & functional — which should be this coming week, with LUCK (something I don’t have unless it is prefixed by ‘BAD’).

‘HostGator’ Shared Hosting Servers DOWN AGAIN For A 2+ Hour Outage — The 2nd Extended Outage In 16-Days!

on December 11, 2022

Click to ENLARGE. Screenshot of my CHAT transcript with HostGator support.

This is becoming concerning. Second, major & lengthy OUTAGE at Hostgator within 16-days. As I documented here, HostGator shared hosting was up-and-down during all day Thanksgiving, i.e., November 24, 2022. It was pretty obvious that they were doing some sort of maintenance using the holiday as a cover.

Then this afternoon this site went down again. WordPress Jetpack informs me whenever it detects a Website outage. They started sending me notifications. I also discovered the outage, to my cost & chagrin, when I went to check the stats.

This site was down for over 2 hours.

The first person I spoke to at HostGator DENIED that it was a server issue. That was bad. It was pretty obvious it was. I quickly terminated that chat. It was a waste of time.

Tried again a few minutes later. As you can see above, the second person, quite quickly & readily admitted it was a server issue. Well, I knew that. Just wanted confirmation.

Not happy. HostGator was, till recently, immaculate. Now … Plus, support is nowhere near as good as it used to be.

‘HostGator’ Shared Hosting Was Up-and-Down During Most Of Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2022.

I would like to think that they were doing some server maintenance or possibly even an upgrade — trying to sneak it in during the holiday hoping that only a few would notice. If that was the case, it would have been nicer & more professional if they had given us a heads up. C’est la vie. It is done now — I hope.

I get these automated messages from ‘WordPress‘ ‘Jetpack‘ whenever they detect a site outage. I got at least 4 of them yesterday, the one shown above the last. Per these messages at least 2 of the outages lasted for over an hour. So, I think, in total, I suffered close to 4 hours of downtime, if not more. Not happy, but not much I can do.

At one point, late in the afternoon, during the 3rd outage I contacted ‘Hostgator’ support via chat. To begin with they were not aware of the downtime. Then they confirmed that it was a server issue at their end. That I knew. I knew it wasn’t MY Website, i.e., this one (you are reading).

I am just basically documenting this. As I said before, not much I can do.

To be fair, Hostgator outages, SO FAR, have been few & far between. I hope it stays that way.

‘Eversource’ — 8-Hour Power Outage In Alton (New Hampshire), Sept. 5, 2022 — Frustrating & BASELESS.

Two contradictory explanations.
1/ Tree limbs contacting power lines.
2/ Tree taking pole down.

The above is also NOT the only ‘contradiction’ by them.

For the first 2-hours of the outage they insisted that power would be restored by 7:15pm. This would have lulled many into a false sense of security & expectancy. Some would have forgone the opportunity to get their generator hooked-up or make any other contingency plans thinking that all was going to be well before dark. THEY LIED!

At 7:20pm there was an automated call saying that power would not be restored till 1:30am the next day, i.e., Tuesday. Well, I have never trusted Eversource. So, I had, as you can see from top image, hooked up & running well before it got dark. Glad I had. We had them running till 11pm. Then I turned them off because they make a racket.

I really despair of Eversource. They are becoming increasingly sleazy, unreliable, greedy & untrustworthy. They are a monopoly & relish abusing that power.

There really was no grounds for an 8-hour outage yesterday, i.e., Monday, September 5, 2022. We didn’t really have any bad weather. Just some rain — mainly drizzle. I should know. I walked, outside, in the ‘rain’, for 8-miles. NOT heavy rain. ZERO WIND. Nothing. Not even a breeze.

Then the power goes off & stay off for 8 bloody hours!

Not right.

I really despair of Eversource. I wish I could switch to another provider. But, of course, I can’t. They have me by my throat.

TDS Telecom: 5-Hour Internet, TV & Phone Outage In Parts Of New Hampshire On May 25, 2022.

on May 25, 2022

Click to ENLARGE. My Tweets overlaid over TDS Outage Page.

The worst part of today’s 5-hour outage was that TDS Telcom REFUSED to tell me what the problem was. I just wanted to know whether it was a cut cable, a server that was down, a data center that was in trouble. They refused to tell me.

That at 1pm they were telling me that they will give me another update at 5pm was SCARY.

Luckily the Internet service came back at 3pm — albeit at half-speed. We are crawling along.

I pay for the full 1Gig service. I was NOT even getting half that when they resumed service.

I called again. They are sending a service technician tomorrow morning.

TDS used to provide outstanding support.

Not so, anymore.

The support I got today was unaccepatable.

They do NOT communicate.

You can’t reach them on Facebook or Twitter.

A shame. A shame.
