Was That A ‘Red Poppy’ That ‘Al Roker’ Was Wearing At The 2024 ‘White House’ Easter Egg Roll?

When I first saw it on TV I thought it was a ‘Red Poppy‘ & was v. happy but a tad confused. Unlike us Brits, Americans are NOT known for wearing Red Poppies though ‘The American Legion’ does INDEED have a ‘Poppy Day‘ — though it is NOT November 11, as it is in the rest of the World. The American Poppy Day is May 26.

While it is perfectly OK to wear a Red Poppy at any time, I was puzzled as to why Al would wear one on Easter Monday.

Now that I have had a closer look I am NOT sure that it was a Red Poppy.

I did a quick search. Al is known to wear rosettes to support/promote a cause; e.g., prostate cancer awareness. But, I could not find anything that told me what this was about. But, I felt I should share this BECAUSE it kind of looks like a Red Poppy & it would have been neat to have him wearing one at the White House.

Much, quite a bit of it rather disturbing, has been happening in Eastern Europe, instigated by Russia (under ‘Putin’), over the last few weeks. Though it is headline news in Europe there is scant mention of it in the U.S. though the ‘White House’ is (obviously) very engaged, & V.P. ‘Kamala Harris’ is talking about it while in Paris. It is like we are right back into the worst of ‘Cold War‘ tension.

I, true to my roots, try to keep abreast of news in Europe on a daily basis. That the U.K. ‘Daily Mail’ is the ONLY paper I read daily — & do so multiple times a day — helps.

There is a real possibility that thinks could get real ugly over there soon. So, this might be a good time to brush up on your East European geography so as to be able to better follow & understand what is happening — & where.
