On Friday, December 16, 2022 — 16 days into the Advent.
December 16th — 16 days into Advent. Only 8 days left!
As you can see much progress has been made on the 2 ‘Legos’ & a LOT of rocks & fidget toys have been uncovered.
She is enjoying it. Has liked all the rocks & fidget toys she has received so far. So I am happy. It was a fair amount of work pulling this off. But, I love it.
I am guilty than most when it comes to gifting CHOCOLATE Advent Calendars. This year is the first, in well over two decades, when I did not buy ANY chocolate advent calendars. The chief recipient of my chocolate advent calendars, who would get a FEW (i.e., more than one), so that she would not be limited to just one chocolate per day, is now lactose-intolerant & as such didn’t want chocolates. Some of the other recipients also declined saying that they are watching what they eat. So, I didn’t get any this year. But, we still had 4 other Advent Calendars going in parallel.
Like with so many things to do with religious holidays, Christmas supposedly one, we have lost sight of many of the old beliefs, customs & tradition.
People were expected to fast — & even give up sex — during Advent!
Dairy & sugar products were particularly frowned upon. So, it is ironic that we now have chocolate advent calendars — the antithesis of fasting or restraint.
Funny how the cookie has crumbled so to speak.
If you are wondering the FIRST Chocolate Advent Calendar dates back to 1958.
She got a shelving unit last year so that she can have them all out on display.
4 ACTIVE calendars for 2022 — ONE more than usual.
This year I added the 24 boxes. Needed more space for the ‘gifts’! The wooden calendar is v. nice but the drawers are very small. SMILE.
I was nervous about the ‘Lego Compatible’. But, she says the pieces are GOOD & there are more pieces per figure than with Lego. That is good since it was half the price of the Lego.
Alas, not from our yard or from within the house. I took these pictures, this afternoon, at our local ‘Hannafords‘ supermarket. I like to take pictures of flowers — as some of you may have worked out. We have already had a few hard frosts & there are no outdoor flowers around here — or for a few hundred miles from here. So, I will have to make do with indoor ones & ones on display. But, I will always try to be as COLORFUL as I can.
This, a wooden calendar I got a few years ago is the cornerstone. It gets pride of place. All the Lego Advent calendars get arrayed around it. This year I think we will have 15 Advent Calendars going in parallel! I keep on adding at least 2 per year. This year I have three. SMILE. She will have 2 Legos — or one Lego & one compatible — to build each day, & two with presents. Not sure what she will do with the others. She make do some of the others each day too. Depends if she has the time & energy. I know she is getting out the prior Lego Advents tomorrow.
In case you are interested I got this, i.e., a Lego compatible, too — this one from Amazon. For the price I could NOT resist.
