‘Laconia Rotary’ PARTNERING With ‘Lakes Region Rotary’ For Their Annual Bike Raffle Made Me SMILE — & Happy.

The two clubs, BOTH of which have their meetings in ‘Laconia‘, were formed 67 years apart — the Laconia Club (formed in 1924) the more senior.

The two clubs do cooperate & collaborate on a regular basis, & some members go to the other club’s meetings on a fairly regular basis. Thus, ‘Lakes Region’ helping out Laconia with the raffle is not something totally out of the blue. I am glad. Made me smile.

For the last 18 months or so I have suggested that the two clubs, given that they are both Laconia-based, should merge.

Laconia, approaching its 100th anniversary, doesn’t even want to think of it. They want to maintain their proud legacy. I see that.

But, the SYNERGY that would be possible would be awesome.

Time will tell. ‘Service above Self‘. ‘Service above CLUB‘!

Good start. YES, I do know what this is all about. SMILE. But, it is all good. All good.

I Am So, So PROUD Of South Africa.

I think (though I can’t be sure) that MY MAN, MY HERO, ‘Nelson Mandela‘ would have approved.

Though, alas, I have never visited {& now unlikely to ever do} I have long had a strong affinity with South Africa. Yes, I am sure, that much of it has to do with my partiality to Nelson. And yes, I also did have a ‘special friend’ from South Africa, & way, way back we talked about going to SA together. But, then there is ALWAYS the cricket — the cricket.

Barry Richards‘ played for Hampshire at the time I was a proud & devout Member of the ‘H.C.C.‘ I was there when he scored a magnificent century, BEFORE LUNCH, when his mother was visiting. Then there have been a slew of others, most recently ‘Quinton de Kock‘. It is no secret that I am a big follower & fan of the South African cricket team. So, by and large, I am happy & proud when S.A. does good, noble things.

I am ALSO a U.N. brat. My (adoptive) father worked for UNESCO from 1969 to 1992 (i.e., 23 years). UNESCO paid for 5 years of my schooling. Thus, though I understand their flaws better than others, I respect (the rare) edicts handed down by the U.N. This is ONE of them.

I am NOT anti-Israeli. Far from it. In 1992 a number of Israeli companies helped me embark on the next chapter of my career. I am ever grateful for that. I also still have a close friend living there — a mega successful tech entrepreneur.

But, I also see the horrors being inflicted on kids & females — on innocent civilians. I am on the side of humanity. Anything to protect & safeguard the innocent — the children. You can’t find fault with that. That is why I am proud of South Africa — THE LAND of Nelson Mandela.
