Towards the end of the 6 episode series you realize you were DUPED. Stupid, stupid STORY. Ludicrous. Pie-in-the-sky storyline. In episodes 5 & 6 a couple of the characters actually SAY IT — ‘all of this for just a million dollars’! Come on. Adult fairy tales. Too pat. Not believable. I am mad at myself that I allowed them to dupe me.

I like movies set in the Australian ‘bush’. Just appeals to me. Never been to Australia & I now know I never will. So, enjoy seeing bits of it in movies. Actually that applies to most countries. I watch a lot of movies/series just to get a better feel of a foreign country. On that front this show did not disappoint. Showed me parts & aspects of Australia that I had no idea about — e.g., THE OBESITY.

The first two episodes are decent. Suck you in. Promises much. Then it goes rapidly downhill. Absurd. Yes, I will admit, it does have some REALLY FUNNY parts. Borderline comedy!

Don’t bother watching it. I hear they are working on sequel — set in Ireland. I am NOT going to watch that. SMILE.

It will write about ‘The Tourist‘ once I finished watching all six episodes — in the next couple of days. Quite the STORY. Quite the show. Wow.

But, 20 minutes into Episode 1 I realized that they were showing a LOT — & I mean a LOT — of fat & obese people. Initially it looked like a joke. I was like “no way”. Australians aren’t fat. But, they showed so many, I had to Google it. I was blown away. WOW.

I then even asked an Australian friend. He, this morning, CONFIRMED it. Wow. Australians.

[yellow tail] New Whiskey Barrel Aged Red Wines Are Remarkably Good & CHEAP.

The 2 bottles I bought a couple of weeks ago & CONSUMED with glee & relish.

I have been a BIG FAN of [yellow tail] for over 20-years. This is mainly because Shiraz is one of my few favorite red wines — and for the longest time [yellow tail] was the only game in town [i.e., New Hampshire] when it came to [affordable] Shiraz.

I was introduced to Shiraz in the late 1990s by female who had discovered it on one of her business trips to Australia. In those days, if I am not mistaken, [yellow tail] was more or less synonymous with Australian Shiraz. I will confess I have not drunk any Shiraz produced outside of Oz.

I typically get at least one bottle of [yellow tail] Shiraz a month — usually the big 1.5L bottle. It is my drink of choice on my ambling trips.

These days I might also get some of other [yellow tail] wines — sometimes even a white!

I happened to see these ‘whiskey barrel aged’ bottles, at a supermarket, recently. They were also very competitively priced, i.e., under $6. I wasn’t sure what to expect, especially with the generic ‘Red Blend’. I was concerned that it might prove to be yucky. I was very pleasantly surprised. The Red Blend was ROBUST & flavorful. I could drink it regularly. Both bottles were good.

I have been looking for more of these bottles this week BUT have been unable to find any.

I thought I had bought the bottles locally. Maybe I did buy them in New York during my recent visit. I do know that I drank a bottle while there. So, I might have picked them up there. Damn. I will be in Vermont this week. I will check to see whether they have it. I will keep you posted.

’19 Crimes’ Red Wine Aged 30 Days In Rum Barrels (15% Alcohol) — OK, But Wasn’t That Special.

It wasn’t bad. It was pleasant enough. Yes, there was a hint of extra body — possibly from the rum infusion. But, at least in my case, it did NOT pack any punch (but, then again, given the huge volumes of red wine I guzzle, daily, I could, very easily, be immune). I was vaguely disappointed. Not mad or anything. I had just expected more. So, basically it fell short of expectations.

I don’t pay any attention to the alcohol content of wine. Per that adage about never being able to be too fat … as far as I am concerned you can never have enough alcohol in wine. But, I went & checked.

I also checked the Merlot that I am currently chugging. 12.5%. So, 15% is higher. Did NOT notice it. So …

The mildly BOLD taste was kind of nice. So, I might try another can sometime in the future. But, for now I am ambivalent. It was nothing to get too excited about. [Shame.]

You can read about the ’19 Crimes’ on their website.

They are an Australian company & the 19 crimes refer to what used to get you deported from Britain to the Convict Colony of Australia. Cute. It is amusing. Check it out.

The ‘British’ crest that they freely use is also cute, amusing & clever.

At first sight, for those that know such things, it looks like ‘By Appointment‘ — i.e., they supply products (in this case wine) to a bona fide member of the Royal Family. See below.

It is NOT a Royal Warrant crest. Just looks like one. But, to be on the safe side they have ‘Proclamation’ stamped by its side. So, they are claiming that the crest refers to the proclamation that enacted the 19 crimes. Clever. Just wanted to clear that up. [Smile]

Click to ENLARGE. Yes, like most authors of late, I found her, to MY DELIGHT, on Audible.

She, or to be precise ‘Ghost Child‘ (above), came up as a recommendation, on the Audible (free) PLUS Catalog — given that I am a full, paid-up a year in advance, ‘Prime’ member. I listened to it during my daily, 4.25-mile walks in the morning. I was blown away. She is a GREAT storyteller. What I loved about this book was that it was all plausible. Prior to this book, I had listened to a couple of books that had pivotal plot twists that were improbable. Not so with Caroline Overington. She was spot on. Loved her style.

So, I BOUGHT the second book — ‘ Last Woman Hanged‘. (I had 19 credits. (SMILE)). This was HISTORICAL, non-fiction. Well, I too write historical, non-fiction — albeit, in my case about popes. Well, I would NOT DARE to compare my works to hers. She is genius. I am in AWE. Her research is jaw-dropping. WOW. OK. I will concede that this book is NOT for the casual ‘reader’. There is too much historical arcaneness which will bore many. But, I loved it. I was in awe.

Yes, I plan to read MORE of her books.

I wanted to introduce her to YOU. That I have now done. You will, in time, thank me.
