Towards the end of the 6 episode series you realize you were DUPED. Stupid, stupid STORY. Ludicrous. Pie-in-the-sky storyline. In episodes 5 & 6 a couple of the characters actually SAY IT — ‘all of this for just a million dollars’! Come on. Adult fairy tales. Too pat. Not believable. I am mad at myself that I allowed them to dupe me.

I like movies set in the Australian ‘bush’. Just appeals to me. Never been to Australia & I now know I never will. So, enjoy seeing bits of it in movies. Actually that applies to most countries. I watch a lot of movies/series just to get a better feel of a foreign country. On that front this show did not disappoint. Showed me parts & aspects of Australia that I had no idea about — e.g., THE OBESITY.

The first two episodes are decent. Suck you in. Promises much. Then it goes rapidly downhill. Absurd. Yes, I will admit, it does have some REALLY FUNNY parts. Borderline comedy!

Don’t bother watching it. I hear they are working on sequel — set in Ireland. I am NOT going to watch that. SMILE.

I Had Not Idea Australia Had An OBESITY Problem Until I Started Watching ‘The Tourist’ (2024) On ‘Netflix’.

It will write about ‘The Tourist‘ once I finished watching all six episodes — in the next couple of days. Quite the STORY. Quite the show. Wow.

But, 20 minutes into Episode 1 I realized that they were showing a LOT — & I mean a LOT — of fat & obese people. Initially it looked like a joke. I was like “no way”. Australians aren’t fat. But, they showed so many, I had to Google it. I was blown away. WOW.

I then even asked an Australian friend. He, this morning, CONFIRMED it. Wow. Australians.

Not much I can add to this other than NOTE that the LATEST data (based on what appears at the bottom of the map) is from 2016. That was 6 (if not 7) years ago. So, this map is a bit dated. But, I am sure the overall picture hasn’t changed — just that some of the BLUES would have got darker.

The numbers are India have to be distorted by their HUGE village-dwelling population. Of late I have been watching a quite a lot of Indian movies on ‘Netflix‘ & I am always struck by how many folks, of both genders & across the age spectrum, are overweight if not obese. Yes, much of that is to do with their carb-rich diet.

All said, an interesting & sobering map to contemplate.

IF ‘New Hampshire’ Is Indeed The 8th Healthiest State — The U.S. Is In Pretty Bad Shape!

New Hampshire, my home state, is #8 in this study. WOW. I would never have thought we would do that well. If this is indeed the case, so many of the other states are in desperate straights. I am shocked, daily, by how unhealthy so many people around here are. Obesity is endemic. I won’t even mention the teeth. << SMILE >>

That ‘Arizona’ comes in at #19, just below ‘Maine‘ surprised me. But, I got to thinking. AZ has become a favored destination for retirees. That obviously sways the balance though, incredibly, ‘Florida’ comes in at #14.

Interesting map. Worth spending a few minutes studying it.

I Had Not Realized How Serious OBESITY Has Got In India Until I Watched ‘D.H.H.’ (2017) On ‘Netflix’.

It was a cute enough movie BUT what struck me the most was the very blasé portrayal of obesity — across the board. Obese teachers, obese headmaster, obese parents — & what ‘killed me the most’, an extremely obese cardiologist! It was like a parody, BUT they really were trying to show normal life in modern India.

There was so much obesity in sight that I had to look it up. See ‘Google’ above. WOW.

Yes, they eat a lot of carbs.

I was disheartened. In my youth a fair number of folks in India were borderline malnourished. And now, in a 50-year period, THIS. Food for thought.
