Two cardinal electors, BOTH Francis creations, will age-out by April 20, 2024 — one (from Laos) on April 8 & the other (from Spain) on April 19.

So, this is what the elector demographics will look like as of April 20, 2024.

Then we don’t have any aging out till June 8, 2024.

That the two who aged out are Francis creations means that only 72.4% of the electorate was created by Francis. That is NOT enough to ensure that the next pope will be a Francis acolyte. He needs to hold another cardinal creating consistory SOON.

Just a note. A very few cardinals have died of late (& those mostly non-electors). Keep that in mind since this will change the demographics & I will, of course, update the numbers.

I needed to know the elector demographics BY COUNTRY. I decided to extract it from my MAGIC Excel spreadsheet rather than trying to get it from a Website. That way I can be sure it was right. Learned about the Excel =UNIQUE function. Made getting the data a piece of cake. Amazing how powerful Excel has become. I am GLAD.

Given we have another elector (viz. Maestrojuán) aging out on Feb. 24, 2024, I updated this as of the next day, i.e., February 25, 2024.

I now also have some new ‘Francis’ columns since I want to see how many votes his camp could get. So, check that out.

With what WAS the invaluable ‘Salvador Miranda’ ‘Cardinals Website’ now MAJORLY out-of-date, I had to do something in order to stay abreast with where we stood with the Cardinal Electors. [Salvador LAST UPDATED his website (ALAS) on May 8, 2023.] I also noticed that the usually very reliable ‘Catholic Hierarchy’ Website has NOT updated its ‘cardinal elector’ page as Jan. 30, 2024. We had one elector age-out yesterday. This is NOT reflected — right now.

I have had this Excel for over a decade — but I have NOT been diligent about keeping it updated. I could always rely on (my dear friend) Salvador to provide me with the data.

NOT SO, now.

So, over the last few days I updated the Excel. It appears to add up. I have numerous checks to make sure that it all adds up. BUT, PLEASE CHECK.

NOW the ONLY RELIABLE website for BASIC cardinal demographics is ‘Catholic Hierarchy‘. It tends to be very up-to-date, but the data is LIMITED. Please do NOT trust any other sites — at least at present. Got that.

The observant among you will have noticed that I have an OFFSET feature. That means I can ADVANCE the date — 30-days, 45-days … whatever FORWARD. That way I can see what the demographics look like going forward. SMILE. The joys of having TWO degrees in Computer Technology!

Officers For The Next Sede Vacante & Then Conclave.

There will be a sede vacante (vacant see) & a conclave at some point. That is a given.

We cannot now have a conclave this year. Not enough days left. But, a sede vacante can happen at any time, sometimes with NO WARNING. But, I doubt that we will have one this year.

It could happen it 2024, but the again it might not.

But, I need to start getting my ducks in order. So, I created this Excel spreadsheet. The top part is populated & accurate as of now. But, that will change over time. Hence, why I blurred it out to avoid any confusion.

I need to work on the bottom part. I have the data. Just need to plug it in.

‘Acadia National Park’, Maine, Sees A 8% Drop In Visitors, YTD, In 2022 Compared To Last Year.

4 pictures from my visit to Acadia in February 2022 when I had the Park all to myself some of the time!

First & foremost I have to say that I take these numbers with a large grain of salt. Unlike with some of the other National Parks, e.g., Shenandoah, all the entrances to Acadia NP are not gated or monitored. So, it is difficult to get an accurate count. I suspect that these numbers are primarily based on the number of vehicles that passed through the ‘Sand Beach Entrance Station‘. That provides comparative data, BUT is by NO MEANS even close to an accurate gauge of the number of people visiting Acadia. But, just lets go with the comparative data, 2021 vs 2022.

Last year was a RECORD YEAR for Acadia. And we know why that was COVID or to be more precise the escape & relief from COVID. In Acadia it isn’t too difficult to maintain social distancing — even with record crowds.

This year 3 factors, two interrelated are at play which would easily explain the 8% drop.

  1. Gas prices.
  2. Inflation which is hitting wallets & impacting vacation plans.
  3. People have started flying again in anger (or did so till June) & as such were able to travel to other parks.

So, all in all, this is NOT a big deal. Some will argue that a 8% drop was good given that most don’t want to see Acadia congested to the brim.
