As attested in print above, ‘Boot Head Preserve‘ is my top pick on the ‘Bold Coast‘ — and that is saying something given how fond I am off the whole area.

As I pointed out in this post, there was pretty thick fog nearly all day up in the ‘Lubec‘ area (i.e., ‘Bold Coast‘) last Thursday, August 4, 2022. That was the densest & most persistent fog I had seen up there in all of my visits. After I had spent about 90 minutes at Quoddy, in the fog, I decided to make it to Boot Head to see what it was like in the fog. Well, here are some pictures. Enjoy.

Neat To See The ‘East Quoddy Light’ (Though NOT On The ‘Bold Coast’) Featured On A ‘Windows 10’ Lock Screen.

The middle figure above explains the irony here. The iconic, candy-striped ‘Quoddy Head‘ light, at the ‘Quoddy Head State Park’ sits at the designated easternmost point of the contiguous U.S. Its officially name, however, incongruous as it maybe, is ‘WEST Quoddy Head Light‘. That is because of the lighthouse pictured in the Windows 10 lock screen. It lies to the EAST of that at the State Park — but it is NOT in the U.S. That is the catch. It is on ‘Campobello Island’, in Canada. It, as you can see, is also a red & white lighthouse though this time the stripes are in the form of a tall cross. The red is to improve visibility in fog — a frequent occurrence in this area.

Pretty thick fog nearly all of the day up in the ‘Lubec‘ area (i.e., ‘Bold Coast‘) last Thursday, August 4, 2022. That was the densest & most persistent fog I had seen up there in all of my visits. It was cool. Another perspective. The Bold Coast is eerily quiet most of the time. The fog made the silence even more profound. It was quite the trip. I felt bad for a few folks I met who were just there for the day. Luckily all of them agreed that the fog was ‘cool’. That was good.

I have more Bold Coast fog pictures from that day & the next. I will post them over the next few days as time permits. Enjoy.

Mini-‘Lego’ Model Of The ‘Portland Head Light’ At ‘Fort Williams’ — One Of Our Favorite Places.

The actual lighthouse from our visit on Sunday.

It is NOT ‘Lego‘ & it is mini-blocks (though in reality they are more like micro-blocks & they come with a tweezer to help you pick them up).

Not a very good likeness — I have to say; but it is, nonetheless, rather cute.

Why they just couldn’t make a smooth, rounded tower defeats me. But, it is the thought that counts — I guess.

They were selling the kits, at $13 (plus Maine tax), at the Gift Store.

During ALL the visits we have made to Fort Williams in the last 3 years this was — due to COVID — the first time the Gift Shop was open. Teischan went in, looked and told me about the kits. She, as ever, was impeccable. She did not ask for one (though she also has a stash of cash). I bought TWO! One for her, one for me.

She built hers today. Took her two days. That is hers. I appropriated hers & gave her my, unopened, kit. She is going to build that too. She likes Lego.

Well, I wanted to share this with you. Enjoy. SMILE.

The Truck Jumped Over The Lighthouse, Lubec, Maine — Bold Coast.

I did wait to see if I really could get a cow jumping over the moon above Mulholland Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine but alas this was the best I got. So, I made this poor graphic to atone those that might take umbrage at my liberties with nursery rhymes.

I took this picture from Mowry Beach, Lubec. I couldn’t resist. It amused I, but I am easily amused.

Yes, it is possible that the moon, at certain times, might appear below the bridge. That would make a great picture. IF I am lucky enough to get a place in Lubec, as I wish, maybe I can scope that out.

But, for now, this the best I can do. Sorry. But, I hope it amuses you. Smile.

‘Quoddy Head’, ‘Lubec’, On The ‘Bold Coast’, From The Other, Less Travelled, Entrance.

Official State Map annotated to HIGHLIGHT the ‘Carrying Cove‘ entrance.

This NOT so that you can skip paying the $5 (or less), non-enforced (‘honor-system‘ based) ‘Quoddy Head State Park‘ Fees. I always make a point of giving more or paying multiple times. Quoddy Head is a National Treasure.

No, this back entrance is just a way to enjoy the amazing views available on the western side of the ‘Coastal Trail’ without having to hike all the way from the fabled lighthouse. Basically it is a shortcut to some of the better sights. That is it — & that is all.

Yes, it is worth visiting ‘Carrying Cove Beach‘ just to have a gander at its beauty. But, while you are at it, within 0.5 mile you can see some of the iconic views I show above. Hence, why I mention this.

Yes, there is a small brown sign for the beach on ‘South Lubec Road’ & two small pull-ins for cars. They are more or less where you see the start of the ‘flats’ when coming from the lighthouse. So, hard to miss.
