As soon as I saw it I knew it was ‘Downeast‘, Maine. Just had to establish whether it was my ‘Bold Coast‘ or ‘Acadia‘. That wasn’t hard. As soon as I looked closer I knew EXACTLY where it was. It, a decade ago, used to be ‘my’ secret.

‘Ravens Nest‘, close to the start of of the Loop Road, in Acadia’s Schoodic. Because of safety concerns it remains UNMARKED.

I actually included Ravens Nest, with pictures, in my ‘Bold Coast, Maine — Cut to the Chase‘ book (last year). See here … {Left, print edition in b&W. Right, eBook in color. Notice that my 1st picture (on left) is the same view as that of the Lock Screen.}

But, it was cool to see this image, a view I am very familiar with, suddenly appear on my PC. In case you were wondering, I was last there last year (I think). I did go to Schoodic a few weeks ago BUT didn’t do the Loop Road.

I was hoping against hope that I would be able to get this book done by Christmas. I had had enough! It was TOO MUCH. My fault. 4 books, on the same subject, in 1 year is too much for I. I get BORED. {SMILE}

Yes, this was my 4th book of 2022 — & all were about the Bold Coast. But, it is DONE & I am glad. Now I have to do some books on other topics — Antipopes, comets & Buddhism. So, you have been warned.

In October, after I had finished ‘Cut to the Chase‘ I planned to have this book, i.e., the SOUVENIR in COLOR, done by early November — ready for those that might be interested in getting it as a Christmas present. I soon realized that this was going to be impossible to achieve. So, instead, I dashed off the 54-page photo-book: ‘In Color‘.

Then I went back to work on this Color Souvenir. As it happens it is the longest of my 5 Bold Coast books! It came in 28-pages over ‘budget’! What can I say? In the end I decided that ‘screw the end price‘ (which is totally contingent on page count) & decided to make it has ‘good’ as possible. So, 148-pages. It was a lot of work. Doing books in color requires additional work.

Well it is done. I can now take a break — maybe for 2 or 3 days! SMILE.

Just to avoid any confusion & misunderstanding, please NOTE that I do say
DOWNTOWN Lubec.

As far as I am concerned this is the HIGLIGHT of downtown & the main waterfront — i.e., ‘Water Street‘. It is really the only proper shop, downtown, bar the hardware store (that I have yet to visit).

‘Dockside Treasures‘ is FUN, has a ton of v. clever & cute artistic stuff, an exquisite view of the ‘Narrows‘ & the ‘Mulholland Point Light‘ (across the water in Canada), great coffee, attractively priced wine & good vibes. The owner, who is a font of local knowledge, likes to say that she has the best views of the water — & I concur.

They have $9 jewelry grab bags made out of lobster bait bags. Very cute — like everything in there. On my first visit, on a whim, I bought two bags. They were BEYOND a BIG hit. Daughter loved what was inside. I think I have bought at least 6 more since. My daughter can’t get enough of them.

Yes, full disclosure. My books are on sale there — & they sell more copies than anyone else, even Amazon! So, that enhances my draw to the place. But, check the pictures (above). You should be able to tell that I, as is my wont, being candid. Also, of late, the owner, ‘Wanda Corey’, has been posting videos on Facebook. You can check them out here.

IF you saw the last book you will know that I included them in it. That alone has to say something.

Managed to get the eBook (readable on ANY phone, PC, tablet etc.) published last night — 3-weeks after the paperback. Given that the book is heavily formatted, with lots of bullet lists (per its premise), making an eBook version was a LOT of work. I kid you not. But, it is NOW done, & that is a huge relief. I plan to take a few weeks off from writing!

The eBook will be downloadable for FREE from Thursday to Sunday this week, (i.e., August 25 – 28, 2022) directly from Amazon.

PLEASE NOTE that you DON’T need a Kindle to read Kindle eBooks!

Kindle eBooks can be read on ANYTHING — any phone (Android or Apple), PCs, Web browsers, tablets, etc. etc.

I hope to do two more ‘Bold Coast‘ books over the winter: ‘Bold Coast, Maine: In Color‘ & ‘Bold Coast, Maine: For Kids‘. I am hoping to have them available by May 2023.

Now there are three. Most likely the last for at least a few months. I have no plans, right now, for another. My daughter wants me to do a color version for her. I can’t very well reuse her! SMILE. Also toying with a book for kids. Stay tuned.
