Wow!

The dirty buggers! This was 2,000-years. Worse than we are. Who would have thought.

I saw this yesterday during my 1st scan of my beloved U.K. “Daily Mail” yesterday morning. Wow. I doubt whether I would have learnt on this on CNBC, MSNBC or CNN — my other 3 sources of news. I would have been such a shame to have missed this. Huge hinged phallus. What next?

This is why I make a point of reading the U.K. “Daily Mail”, online, multiple times a day. I want to make sure I don’t miss anything.

I was, luckily, rather familiar with the U.K. metal detecting culture having been a HUGE fan of the BBC’s hilarious ‘Detectorists‘. So, I knew what would have been involved etc. Cool. Very cool.

I doubt whether this IMPORTANT news would have ever made it to CNBC, MSNBC or CNN — my other 3 sources of news. I would have been such a shame to have missed it.

This is why I make a point of reading the U.K. “Daily Mail”, online, multiple times a day. I want to make sure I don’t miss anything.

I started reading the Daily Mail as a young adult in the mid-1970s — while living in the U.K. It was the best compromise between a serious paper, e.g., The Times, & an out-and-out tabloid, e.g., the Sun. I was busy & didn’t have that much time to read a paper. I didn’t commute by bus or train so I had to get my reading done around breakfast before starting a hectic day. Yes, of course, per the then custom, I had the paper delivered — through the mail slot in the front door. It would be lying there for me, 6 days a week, by 7am. On Sundays, I did get the Sunday Times & maybe the Sunday Sun delivered!

Bottom line is that I and the Daily Mail go back nearly 50 years! Wow. That is sobering.

I was kind of surprised to see that ‘New Hampshire‘ made the TOP 10 — albeit at #10. I knew that we are NOT a healthy state (with obesity rampant), but it never occured to me that we would be this bad.

THEN it occurred to me. I am probably to BLAME! Exclude me and New Hampshire probably drop to #20. SORRY. Can’t help it. It is my (cheap) jeans. SMILE.

Hang on, hang on. Didn’t we see a report, in August, that had New Hampshire as the 8th HEALTHIEST State? Ah? Can’t be both. #8 healthiest & #10 unhealthiest when there are 50 States. Damn statistics. Statistics lie. Check it out.

I am only reporting what I see & what I remember. At least I remembered about the earlier post. You look it up.

In the meantime I need to do my part in getting NH more healthy.

This TYPO is UNFORTUNATE. It is NOT funny.

This is a SCARY, tragic story. This is a 38-year old mom who was ABDUCTED. Nothing funny. No jokes.

I joke that my middle name is ‘typo‘. But, in the main I work alone. I do not, alas (at least anymore) have a WHOLE organization to check my work.

This is BAD on the part of the U.K. ‘Daily Mail’.

I know they kind of like being the Champs of Typos. But, in this instance it is NOT right.

Makes my ‘grouse‘ –> ‘goose’ look insignificant.

That Jellyfish Hold The Key To Immortality, With DUPLICATE Genes, Does NOT Make Evolutionary Sense.

I will readily admit that I am not an out-an-out expert on evolution. But, I have done a fair amount of reading on the subject & am pretty sure I have a fairly decent grasp of the basics. But, I could be wrong in this instance. This does NOT make sense to me.

Jellyfish, of course, had to evolve from a chain of other organisms before it. So, somewhere along the line one or more of these ‘accidently’ got into DUPLICATE gene production. Yep. I can buy that. So, we end up with jellyfish with duplicate genes.

But, are there also other creatures with duplicate genes?

I get the feeling that we do NOT know. I would like to think that there has to be … there should be. Why would such a LIFE SAVING trait only get transmuted to one creature, viz., jellyfish. So, that is my first dilemma. I would be much more comfortable if we had more creatures with similar duplication of their genes.

Then, the real crux. Why hasn’t the jellyfish evolved, further?

If duplicate genes are such a WONDERFUL trait how come we didn’t get them. How come they didn’t go further beyond jellyfish.

That is what bothers I. Maybe you can help me. IF I ever get the time I plan to look into this further.

New Hampshire, my home state, is #8 in this study. WOW. I would never have thought we would do that well. If this is indeed the case, so many of the other states are in desperate straights. I am shocked, daily, by how unhealthy so many people around here are. Obesity is endemic. I won’t even mention the teeth. << SMILE >>

That ‘Arizona’ comes in at #19, just below ‘Maine‘ surprised me. But, I got to thinking. AZ has become a favored destination for retirees. That obviously sways the balance though, incredibly, ‘Florida’ comes in at #14.

Interesting map. Worth spending a few minutes studying it.

I just want to make sure that YOU heard about it.

Given that the study was done at the ‘University College of London‘ (part of my M.Sc. alma mater) it got more coverage in the U.K. than here. Since I read the U.K. ‘Daily Mail’ (online) multiple times a day, I happened to see it more than once. Hence my motivation to share this with you.

Interesting stuff. If it isn’t caused by a chemical imbalance what else can it be. Interesting. Depression is something I just cannot understand. Totally defeats I. I don’t get it. To me once should be able to to talk yourself out of it. But, then again I am BIG into Brain Meditation.

The U.K. ‘Daily Mail’ Continues To Be THE CHAMP When It Comes To Classic Typos.

The subject matter of the story is rather distasteful. Hence, why I blurred some of it to spare you the distress. NOT A NICE SUBJECT.

But, the typo is a classic & couldn’t be ignored. I had to share.

That I am an unashamed daily (actually multiple times a day) reader of the U.K. ‘Daily Mail‘ should be well known to anyone who knows this blog. I started reading the daily mail in my early 20s — when I lived in the U.K. So, the Daily Mail & I go back 40 years. Yes, I know it is a conservative outlet, BUT I trust & respect MY DAILY MAIL over most other news outlets.

Yes, I will readily concede that the ‘7’ they quote might be a tad low, BUT the actual number is NOT going to be 700 or even 70. So, they might not have totally nailed it, but they probably got the gist of it.

This is disgraceful!

There is no other way to characterize this.

Joe Biden is pathetically weak & a hypocrite.

Biden also said this — & yes, it is per MY ‘Daily Mail’ (& here is the link).

Biden was reasonably smart 15 years ago. Today, he is senile, weak, pathetic, a hypocrite. I am DONE with Biden. Let’s Go Brandon!
