Voting For The Very 1st Time In The U.S. — & I Voted For A Republican!

A RED LETTER day for I — one I really didn’t think would ever be. Glad I did.

Voting for the first time since 1982! I missed voting. Never missed voting in an election when I lived in the U.K. I am a born political creature.

Well, I finally got U.S. Citizenship (after 38 years) so that I could VOTE. So, I did — the first chance I had. Came back early from Acadia just to vote.

Kind of upset & disappointed that it is a PRETTY MEANINGLESS vote.

Democratic votes don’t count & ‘Trump‘ will win the Republican vote in N.H. & in the U.S.

When I heard that ‘DeSantis’ had dropped out I was very discouraged.

Voted for ‘Nikki Haley‘ as a VOTE AGAINST Trump.

After saying that I will CONFESS that I could live with Nikki Haley as President.

I am USED to Female Heads-of-State.

I would vote for her RATHER than ‘Joe Biden‘ in November! Yes, I would.

I will NOT VOTE for Biden. I like him a LOT. Loved him in 2008, 2012 & 2020. But, NOT so in 2024. He is TOO OLD. He is TOO WEAK. He is NOT PROTECTING the Border.

My life has probably been EVENLY SPLIT between being a Conservative/Republican & a Democrat. I definitely have Republican tendencies. SMILE.

No surprises. Exactly as I had expected — & to be fair we already had a preview of the process with the Amazon (AMZN) split in June. So I knew what to expect — & it was also interesting that unlike with the AMZN split Fidelity didn’t bother to send me an e-mail with a schedule of what will happen re. the stock & options, following the SPLIT-DAY market close.

I nailed the new, post-split price BUT that is nothing to gloat about. It was going to be 1/20th of yesterday’s (i.e., July 15th) market close price. So, $112.77 (rounded up to 2-decimal points).

Here is something WILD. I included the AMZN share price (above) so you can see the two prices side-by-side. They are ONLY 78 cents apart. AMZN costs 78 cents more than GOOG. Wow.

On November 14, 2021, (using post split prices in BOTH cases) AMZN was $184, GOOG was $150. A $34 dollar gap. This is now down to $0.78! AMZN has gone down a LOT, much more than has GOOG.

So, it has finally happened, 5 months & 2 weeks (164 days) after the announcement, GOOG has at last split — 20-to-1. The split is taking place, across computers around the world, even as I type. Tomorrow morning the new split shares will be in accounts (IF you are lucky enough to have owned GOOG). [Yes, I have owned GOOG, though alas not that many, for many, many years.]

That GOOG went down $502 (18.2%) between the February 1, 2022 and today’s split is hard to believe. Many thought that GOOG will go up as the split approach — as had been the case with previous splits of popular shares. But, alas, this is 2022 with its horrendous (once in 40-year) inflation & the consequent interest rate hikes.

Amazon (AMZN), the other, BIG stop slit of 2022 (to-date), also saw its share price plummeting ahead of the split. It hasn’t done that well after the split either. Even today, nearly 6 weeks AFTER the split, AMZN is BELOW, well BELOW, the split price! This has some GOOG shareholders worried — as they should. To be honest, I am NOT that concerned. At my advanced age, with over 40 years stock investing in the rearview mirror, I understand that the market goes up & down & that it will eventually start rising after a fall & vice versa. Plus, my big thing is OPTION TRADING — actually that is an addiction. Now with this 20-to-1 stock split I will finally be able to do option trades on GOOG. WOW. Yes, I never had 100 shares of GOOG. But, I will after tomorrow. Actually I will have more than 200 … {SMILE} As some of you know, my BIG share holding is in AMZN & I have no regrets. {SMILE}

So, here is to the GOOG 2022 20-to-1 SPLIT. Cheers. Keep your fingers crossed. It will start going up someday — & then it will go up, quite a bit, for some time. That is a given.

Click to ENLARGE & study. The SPLIT is DONE. DONE!

It is DONE. Done. Price can’t change. The final close on Friday, June 3, 2022, was somewhere in the $2,447 to $2,451 range.

20-to-1 split. So, you get 19 additional shares for each one you own, BUT the price goes down by 1/20th. Hence, the $122/$123 price.

That is pretty attractive. You can now own a 100 AMZNs for $12,000. That is a bargain.

We will see MAJOR down says. Interest rates hikes are far from done. So, AMZN will still take some major knocks. But, by this time next year it should be close to $180. Mark my word.

Those of us who own AMZN should see the post-split shares in our accounts on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Compared to other high profile stock splits, Amazon’s much anticipated 2022 split, so far, has been very muted & insipid. It went up a fair amount since the split was formally approved on Wednesday, but not by that much.

So, two of the lead-up steps to the split, i.e., the approval & the NOMINAL ex-split day (i.e., May 27) are NOW history. Only June 3 stands between the old shares & the split ones. The split will take place, after the markets close, on Friday, June 3, 2022. The split shares will start trading when the markets open on June 6, 2022.

To add a bit more spice, Monday, May 30, is a holiday, Memorial Day. So, there is only 4 days left of trading prior to the split.

Despite my admonitions many will continue to believe that it is now TOO LATE to buy AMZN stock that is going to get split. That is NOT true. You can keep on buying them till 4pm (Eastern) on Friday, June 3.

Well, at today’s Amazon Annual Meeting the shareholders FORMALLY voted in favor of the 20-to-1 stock split. That was expected. We had cast our vote — as ‘YES’ (by proxy) a few weeks ago.

So, the VOTE is out of the way.

Now it is GO-GO-GO & it is a very fast & compressed schedule.

AMZN stocks will split, after trading, on Friday, June 3, 2022. That is the GOLDEN DAY. You can continue to buy pre-split AMZN shares until 4pm (Eastern) that Friday. That is a given.

The split shares will appear in accounts as of Saturday, June 4, 2022. Same as option expirations. They expire on Friday & you see the expirations on the Saturday.

The split shares will start TRADING Monday, June 6, 2022 at 9:30am (Eastern).

So, that is it.

AMZN went up, a bit, today. Will most likely go up on Thursday & Friday too.

June 1: The Google 2022 Annual Meeting where the VOTE the 20-to-1 stock split will be held.

Everyone is ASSUMING that this will go through. [Though I do own GOOG shares (and have for many years), I don’t own enough to bother voting. NOT SO when it comes to Amazon. Yes, I own much more AMZN than I do GOOG. SMILE.]

With the share price now hovering around $2,000 — over $800 down from when the split was announced — there is a (small) possibility that the vote might not go through! But, if that happens the stock price will now go down a further $250. So, I am fairly sure the 20-to-1 split will go through.

July: If the vote goes through, Friday, July 1, will be the NOMINAL EX-DIVIDEND (i.e., EX-SPLIT) date. It means diddly. Repeat. It means DIDDLY.

But, brokerages will claim that you need to own GOOG on July 1 in order to get the SPLIT. That is garbage. If you buy GOOG on July 3 what are the brokerages (& for that matter Google) going to do? Tell you own a special class of OLD, unsplit shares!

There is NO EX-SPLIT DAY. You can continue buying GOOG till the actual SPLIT DATE.

July 15: GOOG will split, 20-to-1, AFTER trading on this Friday. You will see the SPLIT shares on Saturday July 16.

July 18: The NEW split shares will start trading.

Got that. All depends on the vote going through.

They MIGHT delay these dates by a week or more. They have to happen on a Friday.

There is NO EX-SPLIT day — until the day the split happens. SMILE. [I have exploited this, & might do so again. Did so with TSLA. Bought AFTER the EX-SPLIT date when the prices dropped. SMILE.]

The Amazon (AMZN) 2022 stock split is taking place on a much more expedited (aggressive basis).

Google announced their 20-to-1 split in February 2022 — nearly a month ahead of Amazon. However, Amazon’s split will take place earlier.

You can also see that Amazon’s split is scheduled to take place RIGHT after the Annual Meeting. I will confess I was surprised to see that. Yes, it is all electronic now. So, it can be done quickly.

On the other hand Google is waiting a month after the Annual Meeting for the split. Yes, that will give time for folks to go ‘crazy’ about the stock.

But, now you have the dates & both calendars — for AMZN & GOOG.

We Just Voted ‘Yes’ (Of Course) For The 20-For-1 Amazon (AMZN) Stock Split.

Click to ENLARGE. My proxy vote.

Alas, we are NOT huge (and as such, major) Amazon shareholders. And it this case I am not using the Royal ‘we’. I & my youngest kids (at my behest) own Amazon stock — and have done so for many years. Between us we own a ‘few’ — alas, not millions or even thousands, but more than ‘xxx’ (& that is as specific as I will ever be in public).

So, we voted today for the 20-to-1 split. Given my 20 years of active investing, I am a past master of stock splits. I have gone through them all, both normal splits & reverse splits. I understand how they work better than some & I even have some secrets I no longer readily share as to how to make the most PRIOR to a split.

The BIG THING to I is the ADDITIONAL option trading. Many of you regulars know that option trading is one of my few addictions. A 20-to-1 split INCREASES my option trading scope 20-fold! If I own ‘xxx’ shares, I have the ability to trade ‘x’ options given that (‘proper’) option trading has to be done in terms of 100 share blocks. So, owning ‘xxx’ shares give you the chance to sell/buy ‘x’ options.

But then you get a 20-to-1 stock split. Now, rather than owning ‘xxx’ shares, I will own 20 times more. That means I can now play around with 20x options! WOW. That is exciting. So, much scope.

Yes, we also own GOOG & TSLA — though not as much as we own AMZN. So, this Summer is going to be like an early Christmas for I. WOW. SMILE. Actually GRIN. GRIN. GRIN.

I Am Puzzled How ‘Juneteenth Holiday’ Had NO GOP Senate Nay-Votes But 14 GOP NO Votes In The House.

Click to ENLARGE. Official U.S. House vote tally.

Just not used to seeing anything of import getting through the Senate, in a long time, by Unanimous Consent. And this Holiday, which was bound to be controversial & divisive, did. What gives?

We know the Republicans weren’t thrilled with it because 14 voted against it (& 2 abstained) in the House.

But NO GOP Senators dissented. Very strange.

I had to go digging. Appears that quite a few GOP senators were not in favor. Appears that ‘Ron Johnson’ (R-Wisconsin) was even trying to BLOCK the vote from coming to the floor. (Check out the ‘Business Insider’ article shown above.) Then they all caved in. Wow.

The GOP senators “lost their appetite to debate this bill“? Very strange. Very unlike them.

Hhhmmm. I guess pigs to sometime fly.
