Cracks me up. I was a BIG fan 50 years ago! 50 years ago! And now my 17-year old daughter loves it. Watched it in its entirety (i.e., all seasons, all episodes) late last year & has started watching it AGAIN, systematically, episode-by-episode, this week. I caught a few snatches of dialog & knew exactly what it was. I am kind of happy.

Six or seven years ago I got her hooked onto British programming. She has watched ALL OFF ‘Downton Abbey‘ EIGHT (8) times!

I have subscriptions to BOTH ‘BritBox‘ & ‘Acorn‘ for HER! I haven’t watched anything on those two channels for years. I tend to watch ‘Netflix‘ & ‘Prime‘.

She does NOT get even half the jokes. LOT of British innuendo, British slang & it is dated. She doesn’t care. I try to explain. She is not bothered. She is HAPPY to watch it without fully appreciating all that is going on. She is like that. That is fine. As long as she is happy.

But, this cracks me up. I am not sure I could watch much more than 1 episode. I have seen them all & would kind of remember where it was going.

But, this is GOOD. I am happy too.

‘The Secret Of Skinwalker Ranch’ (2020) Series On ‘Netflix’ Was BEYOND LAME! Pathetic.

I am a BIG fan of Netflix. I was late joining the party (like only 3-years ago) BUT these days I watch Netflix most days. Though we have paid subscriptions to Prime, BritBox & Acorn (at a minimum NOT counting my cricket channels), I tend to watch Netflix near daily at the expense of the others.

Prior to this unfortunate series I had always enjoyed (& admired) all other Netflix produced (or sourced) series. This one, however, was a total DUD. Yes, I will confess that I was a bit reluctant to get into watching it. I feared that it might end up being just fluff. BOY, was I right. It was so, so, so LAME. No substance. Everything got repeated at least 4 times. FAKE. Wow. Netflix must have been DESPARATE.

Avoid at all costs. SMILE.

IF ‘BritBox’ Stops Working On ‘Roku’ The FIRST Thing You Should Check …

by Anura Guruge
on May 25, 2022

Before you do any of the usual suggestions, i.e., removing the channel, restarting the Roku, etc., etc., here is what you need to FIRST DO. Very easy & simple.

Check that you are NOT logged into ‘BritBox‘ from another device, e.g., PC, phone, etc.

That could be the reason why BritBox on Roku is not cooperating. You are logged on somewhere else.

Easy fix.

This should NOT be an issue. But, it appears to be.

I discovered it to my cost yesterday.

I have been using BritBox, on my Roku, with never any trouble, for well over 5 years.

Then yesterday the Roku APP refused to play ball.

I did all the usual. None of that worked. Then I REMEMBERED that I was logged onto BritBox, atypically, from my PC. I logged out of my PC. Bingo. Easy as that.

The ENTIRE 2 hour 24 minute show, as livedstreamed by ‘BritBox‘ on Sunday, May 15, 2022, using the ITV coverage is NOW available on BritBox to view at your leisure & convenience. So, you don’t have to watch it all in one go. Plus, you can replay your favorite bits as often as you want.

I was 99% sure that this would be what happened, i.e., that the livestream will be made available as a ‘watch anytime’ show. Well, it did happen today.

[I checked yesterday. It wasn’t there, & there was not even a mention that it might be coming. I e-mailed BritBox. I got a reply this morning saying it was UP. It was. SMILE.]

I didn’t, ALAS, have the time to watch the ‘BritBoxlivestream of this momentous, once-in-a-lifetime event. I am hoping that BritBox, as it should, will include it in its ‘library’ for future viewing. I will let you know the status of this.

When I logged on, earlier this evening, the livestream was still ongoing. I captured two screenshots — that I shared above.

I know that many of you got to watch it live. Good for you. I am jealous. I was amazed at the HD quality. WOW. They did the Queen proud — as we should, as we should.

This is a precursor to the MAIN ‘Platinum Jubilee‘ events which are scheduled to take place in mid-June. I will do separate posts on some of these.

Us in the U.S. are going to have trouble seeing most of these — live. Yes, YouTube will help — albeit, not in real-time.

That is why I found this BritBox offering interesting & encouraging. It will be livestreamed. It should be worth watching. I am sure it will also be available afterward on BritBox.

I just wanted to make sure you knew about it. Enjoy.

Long Live Our Glorious Queen.

Claims That Netflix Is Over The Hill As A Streaming Behemoth Are But Wishful Thinking.

We got into Netflix late — only in 2020. We had Amazon Prime, HBO & ShowTime (off and on), Acorn TV & BritBox. Over the last 9 months or so I have become quite a devotee of Netflix. As far as I am concerned Netflix has MORE CONTENT than I am ever going to be able to watch! I am, amazed, near daily as to the scope & variety of programming they tempt me with. I have a ‘watchlist’ that is much, much longer than my arm. I have got to the point that I am kind of embarrassed to add any more to it. I go through stints, like the last few days, when I make a concerted effort to just watch things I already have on my list without adding any new items.

As such, I find the claims that Netflix no longer has enough compelling programming preposterous. Come on.

OK, I just looked it up. It appears that Netflix’s repertoire of movies and TV shows (many of which are multi-season series) is in excess of 50,000. 50,000. IF you watch one a day, you will still have enough for at least 136 years! Yes, of course, there will be stuff you don’t want to watch. So, let’s say you discard 80% of the catalog. That still leaves you with 10,000 items –> enough for 27 years IF you manage to watch 1 a day. COME ON. There is no shortage of programming on Netflix.

OK, they have lost subscribers as more people have been forced to go back to work after the COVID ‘vacation’. Yes, Netflix has been punished for that, i.e., the drop in subscribers in 2022. But, I am fairly confident that Netflix will claw its way back.

I for one refuse to write them off.

I enjoyed the first two episodes of Season 11 & was eagerly waiting for the others. Every day, over the last two weeks, I would check on ‘BritBox‘. Nothing. I thought I was doing something wrong — though I couldn’t imagine what.

So, I did some digging today. There was supposed to be (at least) 4 episodes. But, they have only released 2. So, I wasn’t screwing up. There is only two available.

Strange. Wonder what could have gone wrong?

I was raving about it in early 2019. Click image to access my post.

I subscribed to BritBox in March 2019 mainly to continue seeing ‘Vera’.

My youngest daughter (then 13) & I stumbled upon ‘Vera‘, serendipitously, while browsing ‘Acorn TV‘ for British crime dramas in the ‘Agatha Christie‘ mould. It immediately exceeded expectations. We loved it. We were hooked. My daughter adores ‘Vera’. She has watched all the episodes, from Seasons 1 to 10, at least twice!

I am very partial to the show too. I am somewhat familiar with the ‘Newcastle’ area & I appreciate the quintessential British characters that are portrayed. I only have ONE gripe — the show’s obsession with interracial couples. There always seems to be on in every episode. That is bit over-the-top & makes it looks contrived & cheap. I had already bitched about this.

Click image to access my 2020 post.

Guess what. The latest episode AGAIN has an interracial couple. You have to laugh.

But, I am glad Vera is back. Already watched 20 minutes of the new episode. Typical Vera. That is GOOD. The formula works (even with the interracial couples).
