My first introduction to ‘Revels‘ was with ‘Revels North‘ at the ‘Dartmouth‘ (at the ‘Hop’) c. 1998. I was a regular, loyal & gung ho attendee & fan for many years — quite a few years. Then … I had by then discovered the Revels ‘Mothership’, i.e., Revels in Cambridge. A couple of years we went to BOTH each Christmas. Yes, one show in Dartmouth & the other in Cambridge. Then for about the last 7 or 8 years (bar COVID) I just went to Cambridge.

Revels North has been under ‘new management’ for quite a few years. I still get all their e-mails. When I was at ‘White River Junction‘, Vermont, last month (going to a concert at Dartmouth) I saw their ‘office’. I want to reconnect with them. This looked like a good opportunity. So, I volunteered.

It is in ‘Fairlee’, Vermont. I have been there once before 18 years ago — to a wedding. I liked what I saw. So, this gives me another chance. Check the event out as well as Revels North.

I can get a FULL READ on whether this is based on a real story. It appears that the writer’s mother was indeed an accountant, but the accountant in this story is way MORE than an accountant.

Quite the story. Very involved but intriguing & compelling.

There are, of late, plenty of movies about autism & then there is THIS MOVIE! This movie is different. Hence, my recommendation.

The ‘Harbor Neuroscience‘ center, presented as being in ‘Hanover‘, New Hampshire — “Dartmouth’s” home town — appears to be fictional THOUGH there is a rather famous neuroscience facility, associated with Dartmouth, in Hanover. There is also a ‘Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’ neuroscience center, but that is not in Hanover.

I really liked this movie, on multiple levels, & learnt quite a bit from it. Hence why I am bringing it to YOUR attention.

P.S., ‘The Accountant’ is available on ‘Prime‘ & on ‘YouTube‘.

Well I now know what a professional choir sounds like. WOW. They sounded beyond good. Incredible would go some way towards describing what they were like. ‘WOW!’ always captures it.

Their opening ‘bar’ soared towards the domed ceiling & came echoing back. It was powerful, profound but equally ethereal. The young lady seated next to me & I looked at each other in AMAZEMENT. This was like nothing I had expected — & obviously her too. {I later found out that she had sung in many a choir & currently belonged to the Dartmouth ‘Handel Society‘. So, she knew a music & what choirs were supposed to sound like. Her partner, seated next to on the other side, was a high school & church music director. They (unlike I) knew the technical stuff & they were impressed.

Oh, I happened to be sitting in the front row. It was ‘general admittance’. I wasn’t in the first wave of folks to enter but the entire front row (split by the center aisle) was empty. I am not that. So, I went & sat right up front. It was sold out & towards the end others, including the two music scholars, were forced to sit up front — with I.

Well, I am now kind of spoilt. Ametuer choirs are never going to sound ‘right’. Basically, I got to see ‘The Light’. Here something that was pretty close to ‘divine’ — if not so, already. It was special.

I am GLAD I made the effort. My latest ‘resolution’ as I approach 70. I am going to try & catch as many ‘things’ as possible. No point postponing. I might die regretting all the things I should have gone to.

This was first Dartmouth performance in 5 or 6 years. It has been a long time & PARTLY it was due to COVID. I used to go multiple times a year. Maybe I will start doing that again.

This really was an eye opener. Dartmouth only hosts ‘the BEST’ — or close to it. These folks were up there. WOW. Kudos. Bravo.

I link church & choral music (by and large). Something that a v. few (if any) know about me is that I am sucker for vespers — especially in a cathedral setting. If I was ever close to a cathedral & I had time I would make a point to attend vespers.

Well, this is Orthodox vespers. Plus, despite its name, it is NOTAll Night‘! I really couldn’t handle all night.

We used to go to concerts at the HOP all the time. But, with COVID etc., I haven’t been to any event there in many, many years. So, this was also a chance to rectify that.

I have never been inside the ‘Rollins Chapel‘ at Dartmouth. That is another motivation.

I checked out the ‘performance’ on YouTube multiple times. I think I will like it. I hope I do. It will, however, be AN experience & I am all for that.

Yes, of course, I will let you know.
